Safety Awareness For Empowerment: A randomized clinical trial

Does a mindfulness-based cognitive intervention (SAFE) prevent victimization and substance use among youth living in a homeless shelter?

This three-year longitudinal study randomizes 230 youth experiencing homelessness to a the Safety Awareness For Empowerment (SAFE) intervention or shelter services only and then interviews youth across four time points to assess effects on substance use and victimization rates. The intervention trains young people to detect risks, problem solve, act assertively and seek help in dangerous situations.
