Denver Basic Income Project

The Denver Basic Income Project (DBIP) provides unconditional cash transfers to people experiencing homelessness in Denver. Our research design is a mixed-methods randomized controlled trial (RCT) to test the impact of receiving a guaranteed basic income on a number of housing, health, and well being outcomes. The three DBIP payment groups are as follows:
- Group A participants received 12 monthly cash transfers of $1,000 each.
- Group B participants received a one-time cash transfer of $6,500 during initial enrollment, and received 11 monthly payments of $500 each.
- Group C participants are in our active comparison group and received 12 monthly payments $50.
Participants in each payment group received a phone with 12 months of service. No services are required of any participant in any of the three study groups. However, participants from each group are encouraged to engage in any services that they feel will be helpful.
