Professional Biography

Maggie Lantzy holds an MSW Degree with a certificate in Animal-Assisted Social Work (now the Human-Animal-Environment Interactions in Social Work certificate) from the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work. She also holds a Certified Humane Education Specialist credential from the Academy of Prosocial Learning. Prior to her graduate work, Maggie worked as an animal trainer, as well as an ABA therapist for children with autism and related disorders, both in-home and in a school setting. Following graduate school, Maggie worked as an animal care specialist, sanctuary manager, and then the program director for the Zoology Foundation, a non-profit animal sanctuary and education center in Larkspur, CO. While there, she created programs all rooted in humane education including tours, group programs, camps, school assemblies, conference workshops, and more.

Maggie's time at IHAC started in graduate school where she completed her concentration year internship. She went on to work on an IHAC research project centering humane education and helped create and taught in the Humane Education Practitioner certificate before joining the IHAC team full time. Now as the assistant director, Maggie oversees general operations and IHACPro, IHAC's suite of professional development certificates.
