PetSmart Charities Incubator: Diverse Community Veterinary Care

Improve access to veterinary care and pet support services in historically marginalized communities by getting to know the community first, building relationships, and co-creating sustainable solutions with the community.
The Incubator project is a multi-year grant addressing barriers to veterinary care in historically marginalized communities across the US that have little or no access to care. Our role is to provide research and evaluation support as each participating grantee (non-profit animal welfare organization) conducts focus groups, interviews, and surveys to better learn directly from their community on how they could improve their programming to better serve the needs of the community. Each grantee will also focus on building community relationships and co-creating solutions with community partners and members. The reiterative rounds of grantees will allow PetSmart Charities and IHAC to refine the program to maximize its impacts on families and their pets in historically marginalized communities. Overall, this project and collaboration highlights IHAC’s growing expertise and reputation within the animal welfare field.
