Monika Witt

What I do

I have a strong passion for advancing access and increasing health equity across systems of care. I am deeply dedicated to dismantling systems of oppression and ending the cycle of incarceration for individuals with mental health and substance use needs. I have spent my career working as a project manager, program implementer and policy innovator working across sectors with nonprofit organizations, government agencies and higher education institutions. I am currently a Senior Project Associate at Policy Research Associates working primarily on the SAMHSA GAINS Center.

Professional Biography

Prior to joining the team at Policy Research Associates Monika spent the last several years working to advance Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. Monika coordinated statewide policy efforts on the CCBHC model including education of government officials as well as technical assistance to develop the model in ways that are tailored to the state’s needs. Specifically, Monika worked closely with state Behavioral Health and Medicaid staff to develop and implement the CCBHC model in local communities.

Monika previously managed the City of Philadelphia’s Stepping Up Initiative and Co-chaired the MacArthur Safety and Justice challenge Mental Health Workgroup, which supported the connection of mental health and substance use care for those who are involved in the criminal legal system. Previously she worked for the Camden Coalition- National Center for Complex Health and Social Needs, and was a program evaluator for the WellPower Mental Health, in Denver Colorado, focusing on enhancing integrated and whole person care delivery. Monika is a Social Worker by training with a BSW, from Colorado State University, and a MSW degree from the University of Denver. Monika has served as adjunct faculty for GSSW for almost 7 years!
