What is the relationship between cultural competence and veterinary service utilization?
This project has two primary goals: 1) to apply a validated cultural competence instrument in a new animal welfare context (clients of veterinary medicine students), and 2) identify the relationship between cultural competence and key animal veterinary service utilization outcomes in the context of a subsidized community veterinary clinic. In this study, we are collecting survey data from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine veterinary students and their clients following their participation in services at the subsidized Tufts at Tech Community Veterinary Clinic. We will analyze the relationship between client’s responses to the survey and the client’s veterinary services outcome data. In addition, the survey results will be used to understand the relationship between veterinary student self-assessed provider cultural competence and the key veterinary service utilization outcomes for the clients who received services during their rotation at the community clinic.
