Donor Alliance Aftercare Project
April 23, 2024
What are the experiences of organ donor recipients and donor families experiencing aftercare services at the Donor Alliance, an organ procurement organization that serves Colorado and Wyoming?
In Colorado and Wyoming, there was a 19% increase in organ donors and 29% increase in lives saved from 2021 to 2022. The Donor Alliance is an organ procurement organization that serves CO and WY and coordinates organ transplants and provides donor families with aftercare services such as grief and family support counseling. A survey will be administered to aftercare workers, donor families, and recipients. The proposed measures to be used in this survey include a secondary traumatic stress measure for aftercare workers. For donor families the inventory of complicated grief, which addresses complicated grief symptoms such as anger and disbelief and the Brief Grief Questionnaire which screens for complex grief will be administered. For donor recipients a measure of disenfranchised grief will also be administered. This work will assess for overall satisfaction and effectiveness of the aftercare program from the perspective of donor families and recipients.
