Mutual Aid Collective
June 02, 2023
This project explores the ways that social work and mutual aid overlap and diverge and how does mutual aid practice informs the transformation or dismantling of social work as we know it.
Through this initiative, MSW student interns partner with local groups doing mutual aid in the Denver community. Through praxis the ethics, students learn principles, and political grounding of mutual aid. Ongoing individual and group reflections are analyzed to uncover and grapple with critical questions about the field of social work and how it must transform or be dismantled for collective care to be centered. Projects involve interrogating the NASW social work code of ethics, mandated reporting practices, and the role of power and decision making in social change spaces.
