Originally from Seattle, ed moved to Wisconsin in 2004 for undergrad, and then to Minneapolis in 2011 to pursue his Master of Social Work and Master of Public Policy from the University of Minnesota. He relocated to Denver at the end of August to start a PhD program at the University of Denver, where he hopes to advance abolitionist scholarship and our understanding of moral harm in child welfare.
Since graduating from the University of Minnesota, ed has worked in a wide array of social work jobs, including school social work, outpatient therapy, school-based therapy, pediatric hospital social work, community service organizations, state government, county government and child welfare. ed also serve on the Board of Foster Advocates, an organization dedicated to advancing the interests of Fosters at every level of government in Minnesota. Prior to joining the adjunct faculty at DU, ed taught for eight years at the University of Minnesota's School of Social Work. In addition to his work at DU, ed also teaches at Metro State University and St. Mary's University of Minnesota, trains for Think:Kids at Massachusetts General Hospital, and provides clinical supervision for social workers seeking licensure independently and with Cedar Hill Therapy.
ed is an adoptive parent to two remarkable daughters and cohabitates with a 21 year-old blind cat named Mocha.
