PhD Student
Professional Biography
Jax is a PhD student at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social work. He is a proud Michigander, where he received his Bachelor of Social Work from Calvin University and his Master of Social Work in Organization and Community Leadership from Michigan State University before moving to Colorado to pursue his PhD in Social Work.
Jax previously worked in professional program evaluation with DataWise Consulting, LLC. He now works with the U.S. Center for SafeSport, aiming to build sport communities where participants experience the benefit of sport without fear of abuse and misconduct.
Jax's primary research interest focuses on the concept of belonging. As a lifelong endurance athlete and since he graduated from undergrad, a coach, he sees sport as a crucial setting for individual empowerment and space of belonging.
Outside of work, Jax stays busy by continuing to coach athletes in cross country, track & field, and triathlon. He also continues to train for triathlons himself, explore the beautiful state of Colorado with his wife and friends.
