What I do
As part of GSSW Student Affairs, I serve as the primary academic advisor for online MSW students and connect all GSSW students with resources. I support inclusive, student-centered policies and am passionate about removing barriers to education and empowering future social workers to create change.
Professional Biography
Ruth Nwokora is a Senior Academic Advisor at the Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW), where she supports MSW students—especially those in the online program—through personalized academic planning and meaningful resource connection. While not a social worker by training, Ruth brings a rich and diverse background from various areas of life and work, which deeply informs her ability to support students with empathy, perspective, and practical guidance.
Ruth takes a coaching-based approach to advising, empowering students with the tools and knowledge they need to make informed decisions, take ownership of their academic journey, and stay on track toward their goals. Her advising philosophy centers on care, consistency, and student agency.
As a senior member of the advising team, Ruth contributes to strengthening student support systems and advancing equity-focused efforts within GSSW. Her diverse experience allows her to connect with students from all walks of life, offering grounded, compassionate support that meets them where they are.
