What I do

Tony is the President/CEO of Innovative Action Consulting LLC. His customers include nonprofits, foundations, local governments, private sector single and multifamily housing developers. Services include strategic planning, organizational management, policy analysis & advocacy, business process improvement, team building, Employer Assisted Housing, grant writing and compliance, as well as motivational speaking. In addition, Tony also teaches Leadership Development and Policy Analysis at the Graduate Schools of Social Work of University of Denver and at Metropolitan State University in Denver.

Professional Biography

Tony has executive housing/community development experience with small and complex organizations, in both private and public sectors: As part of the Obama team, he served as the Administrator of Rural Housing Services, Rural Development USDA; Director of the Colorado Division of Local Government; Director of Fannie Mae Corporation’s Colorado Business Center; Regional Administrator, Housing and Urban Development for the six Rocky Mountain states (Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Utah North and South Dakota); Tony also served as an IBM Business Planner and Senior Marketing Representative and concurrently served five terms as a State Representative in the Colorado General Assembly. His legislative success working across the aisle resulted in creating the “Revolving Loan Fund” for housing development within the Colorado Division of Housing, Increasing the Bond Cap for the Colorado Housing & Finance Authority; Increasing strategic funding for K-12 education through School Finance Funding Legislation; Job Training legislation and Literacy Education. The Economic Councils of Colorado recognized Tony as the “Legislator of the Year” for making the most significant contributions to economic development in Colorado.

Tony has been recognized for his superior leadership with the following: the Cochran/Collings Award for Distinguished Service In Housing for the Rural Poor from the Housing Assistance Council; Excellence in Leadership Award from Rural Housing Services; Colorado Mortgage Lender Board Member Service Award; Chairman’s Distinguished Service Award, Colorado Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (CAHREP); Alumni of the Year at Colorado State University; Aksel Nielsen Award, Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association, (CMLA),
Performance and Commitment to CMLA; Metro Mayors Caucus Leadership and Outstanding Service Award; HUD Secretary’s Leadership Award; HUD Secretary’s Customer Service Award. Robert G. Boucher Award, Public Private Partnership in Support of the Free Enterprise System, Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association (CMLA); “Good Guys Award” from the Colorado Women’s Political Caucus for his commitment to political, economic and judicial equality for women as well as his commitment to the self-determination of all women.
