AGENCY: Yampah Mountain High School in Glenwood Springs, Colorado

WHAT THEY DO: Yampah Mountain High School is an alternative high school serving approximately 135 students. Beyond earning credits toward a high school diploma, students engage in physical and emotional wellness and life skills education.

STUDENT’S ROLE: Working in a self-contained classroom for students with serious emotional and other disabilities, Megan met with students to address academic, social, and emotional issues, facilitated small group discussions, and helped lead students in extracurricular activities such as hiking and skiing.

THE IMPACT: “The most valuable thing I learned from this experience is that every student has unique gifts and something to offer the group and the school as a whole. Whether it’s a knack for drawing, European history expertise or a great sense of humor, discovering these gifts is the best part!”
