Helping Young Adults With Physical Disabilities Seek Independence And Higher Education
When it is time for young adults to transition into adulthood, there are hundreds of resources available for those who are able-bodied. There are less resources for those with intellectual disabilities, and even less for those with physical disabilities. The intent of this project is to create a guide for young adults with physical disabilities to help them with this milestone transition, guiding them through college life and accommodations as well as seeking independence in general. I have partnered with Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO to work alongside transitioning patients and, in the end, to create some type of literature that can be passed along to other hospitals and programs across the country. This will encourage these young adults to pursue independence and higher education, and will increase the diversity of all universities, benefiting future generations.
