Professional Biography

Andrew Steward received his BA in Music and MSW from the University of Denver. After completing the MSW program at DU, Steward was the Coordinator of a successful aging initiative called Masterpiece Living. Steward was a lead organizer of an inter-generational, lifelong learning model called the Clermont College of Creative Life, recognized by the International Council on Active Aging as one of the five most innovative wellness programs for older adults in North America. In addition, Steward championed Clermont Park Retirement Community to achieve designation as a regional, Certified Center for Successful Aging. More recently, Steward has pursued clinical growth as a Medical Social Worker for Suncrest Hospice. Steward's creative background enabled him to become a Certified Music Practitioner, and he often plays therapeutic flute music for hospice clients nearing end-of-life. Steward's research interests include neuro-plasticity in aging, ageism and ableism in healthcare, and the connections between memory, music and trauma.
