Sacramento Coaching Team
Christa Doty (she/her)
I am a white, straight, cisgender female, and parent to a four-legged friend, just starting the latter part of my career. I have officially been a social worker since 1997 with a master’s degree in social work from the University of Denver, but my mom would say I have been one my whole life. I started my social work career working in child welfare directly supporting families and children, moving to a supervisory role and eventually to training the child welfare workforce. In 2018, in my effort to be a lifelong learner, I was trained by the Coaching Training Institute and awarded my Certified Professional Co-Active Coaching certificate and found coaching was my jam. It combined my social work training with skills and techniques to support individuals and organizations striving to be the best and most fulfilled version of themselves. Coaching the whole person and allowing the client to lead are just two elements of coaching that resonate with me. In my coaching practice, I see my role as holding the container for conversations and allowing curiosity to guide my questions and reflections. Let’s play together and see what emerges!
I currently serve as a senior program associate at the Butler Institute for Families. In addition to being a certified professional co-active coach, I am a professional certified coach through the International Coaching Federation, a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory, and a certified neuro-transformational coach through BEabove Leadership.

Kavitha (Kavi) Kailasam (she/her)
I am a straight, cisgender, Indian American child of immigrants. I believe coaching can be a powerful way for each of us to be supported in our personal and professional growth, honoring who we are as whole people, and helping to align what we value with how we show up in the world. I became a trained professional coach through the Butler Institute for Families’ Academy for Professional Coaching in July 2021 and am currently pursuing accreditation through the International Coaching Federation. I value and believe that communities, like individuals, are their own best experts and have worked to promote this in various aspects of community development and engagement both internationally and locally, across a variety of sectors including nonprofit, government, finance, and higher education.
I currently serve as a senior program associate at the Butler Institute for Families. In addition to being a trained professional coach, I am a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory and a certified prevention specialist through the Colorado Providers Association and the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium. I hold a master’s degree in international administration, focusing on health and humanitarianism, from the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School for International Studies.

Brenda Lockwood (she/her)
I am a straight, white, cisgender woman, who grew up, and still lives, in the Midwest. I have a passion for international travel and participating in endurance athletic events like triathlons and marathons. As an Ironman triathlon finisher, I know very well the sacrifice and reward that comes from staying focused on the "WHY?" of a dream or a goal.
I believe in coaching the whole person. This means exploring, with a client, their "WHY"—the values, beliefs, attitudes, assumptions, and/or worldview—and how these crucial aspects of our inner life influence how one shows up in the world to work toward the things that matter most in our personal and/or professional life.
I have bachelor's degrees in Biology and English and a master's degree in counseling psychology. I am a certified neuro-transformational coach through BEabove Leadership and a professional certified coach through the International Coaching Federation.

Sommer Purdom (she/her)
I am a straight, cisgender, Cherokee woman. I came to Butler Institute for Families after nearly two decades of working in child welfare where I learned the value of people and how powerful our voice is. I have been a trained professional coach for two years. I am also a trauma-informed coach through Moving the Human Spirit, a certification accredited through the International Coaching Federation. I have provided coaching to state, county, and tribal child welfare agencies, as well other nonchild-welfare-related professional agencies. My focus is developmental coaching with a trauma-responsive mindset.
In my coaching relationships, I help clients identify trauma responses that have negative impacts on themselves and bring about awareness by utilizing neuroscience to help clients physically, emotionally, and psychologically self-regulate through various coaching tools and grounding methods. As a trauma-responsive coach, I practice believing in the inner and outer resourcefulness of my clients, practicing a trauma-informed coaching presence by bringing awareness through intentional and immersed listening, co-creating solutions, and supporting their path along the spiral of healing, accomplishing desired change, and developing confidence in their worth. I enjoy coaching because it allows me the opportunity to work with diverse groups of people and learn what values, attitudes, and beliefs guide them in honoring themselves and others.

Jenn Turvey (she/her)
I am a white, cisgender straight woman and identify as Jewish in spirit, culture and ancestry. I’m a New Yorker at heart, and a sensitive person by nature.
I specialize in workplace coaching and am passionate about working with individuals who feel called to leadership. I love helping these mission-driven humans to identify and release unhelpful habits and ways of being, lean into their strengths and passions, and fully emerge into their authentic leadership vision.
Before training and certifying as a coach in 2020, I worked as an organizational development practitioner with Colorado’s Medicaid Program, where I helped workgroups and cross-functional teams with process improvement and operational planning.
I hold bachelor's and master's degrees in Religion and Spirituality. I am a certified integral coach through New Ventures West and an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coaching Federation.
