Return to Campus Checklist

We are taking many precautions to prioritize the safety for all in our community. Depending on your return status, please complete the checklist below and reference the Testing and Quarantine Protocols for faculty and staff for additional information.

  • (Appointed Faculty) Return Status: Returning to Campus for the Fall Quarter

If you are returning to campus for the fall quarter to either teach on campus and/or work in your office and/or take courses on campus, please follow the steps below before the start of the quarter:

    1. Due by 8/28/20. Login into Pioneer Web and click, "Identify campus return date," in the top left. From there, fill out the form in its entirety.
        a. If you are currently in the Denver Metro Area, DU will provide COVID-19 testing. Select, "I would like to be assigned a testing date and time in the Denver metro area via DU during my pre-arrival 14-day window."
        b. If you are not located in the Denver Metro Area OR if you prefer to utilize another testing site, you need to complete a molecular test for the virus that causes COVID-19 and submit your test results. As noted in the DU protocols, returning to campus will depend on the results of this test.
    2. You must quarantine for 14 days prior to your return to campus date and log your symptoms every single day during the quarantine. If you are traveling from a restricted travel state, you must isolate for 10 days in Colorado before coming to campus.
    3. Due by 9/10/20. Complete the mandatory Pathway Back to Campus Canvas course. Your return to campus will be prohibited unless you complete this course.
    4. Once you complete these steps, your DU ID card will be authorized for entry into Craig Hall and the Research and Evaluation Center (REC). You must swipe your DU ID card every time you enter and leave the buildings. It is critically important that you follow this procedure.
    5. Due by 9/14/20. Whether you are teaching in fall quarter or not, all DU faculty, including all series, adjuncts, and graduate assistants, must complete a mandatory one-hour Faculty Institute for Inclusive Teaching (FIIT) training between Monday, August 24th and Monday, September 14th, which is the first day of classes. This expectation was communicated in the August 5 email by the Provost regarding plans to support inclusive teaching.
         a. This class will be automatically populated for you in Canvas on Monday, August 24.
         b. There are 8 modules in the training. For each module faculty are expected to:
           · complete a pre-assessment (Likert-style) question,
           · based on your interest, choose one topic in each module for which you complete a reflection prompt, and
           · complete the post assessment (Likert-style) question. Once this is done for each module, you will receive a badge, and the next module will open.
         c. Once you have completed all 8 modules, the required 1-hour training will be complete.
         d. As recognition, upon completing the required training, you will receive unlimited access to the “Tiny Guides” embedded in the course.
         e. Because this is self-paced, you could easily spend much longer than an hour, however, the course is designed for you to complete the basic requirements in one hour. Plan on spending about 7.5 minutes per module.
          f. Should you want to dig deeper, fully explore ALL topics, and complete ALL reflection prompts, you will earn an Inclusive Teaching Certificate.
gWhether or not you are teaching fall term, you are expected to complete the one-hour training, which can also apply to student mentoring and to creating an inclusive workplace more broadly.

Technology & Working Remotely

  • Zoom

Please ensure Zoom is downloaded on your laptop or other work-related device that you can use from home.

DU has a Zoom portal. Users can log in and download the client for a computer. If you download the mobile client on an Apple or Google device or as a standalone app, and are given choices on signing into Zoom, click the option for SSO and enter udenver.zoom.us as the domain.

Canvas containers are now ready for spring quarter faculty to set Zoom rooms for ‘live’ class sessions. View instructions

  • File Back-Up

If you work between an on-campus computer and one from home, please make sure to back up all work files daily to GSSW operational Shares (R:\ drive) or alternatively, only save to the Office365 Onedrive. This will promote remote access to your work regardless of where you might be.

  • Microsoft Teams

Please explore the use of the chat feature in Office365 for communicating with your teams. This could facilitate real-time communications between staff and faculty who are in multiple locations. Office365 has a feature called Teams which allows you to join an existing team or create your own team. Microsoft Teams is available through the web, through the standalone Teams client for computers or through standalone Teams app for mobile devices. Log in with your DU email address and password.

  • Technology Support

Reach out to the University of Denver Helpdesk at 303-871-4700 or submit an online request. You can call or text the GSSW Technology support line at 303-900-2805. This line goes directly to voicemail and is checked by Ryan Garrett’s team from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Depending on the issue, you may not get a callback until the next business day.

  • Work Study

Please read the latest email update from the Office of Student Employment (updated March 31).

Our work-study and other student workers depend on their work with us for their livelihood. If you host a student worker, please develop work for them to do remotely. If you do not have work for them to do, please let the GSSW Academic Affairs team know by email GSSWAcademicAffairs@du.edu, so that we can link the students with projects that various departments have for them.

If you do not currently have a work-study or student worker but you have work that could be done remotely, please request this support through GSSWAcademicAffairs@du.edu or the routine Faculty Support Survey. We are building a repository of projects.

Please wait for instructions from GSSW on how to enable Zoom in your Spring Course Canvas Container. Additionally, Kaltura and Media supports will be encouraged for recording of student presentations and group work.  If courses were developed for MSW@Denver, the videos from those courses will also be available for use in Canvas.

GSSW Support Pods

We are excited to launch GSSW Support Pods with the support of several faculty, staff and doctoral students who have offered to lead groups based on the interest of our community. These optional pods are designed to provide connection and support to one another in challenging times and each group’s format will be designed by its members based on their unique needs and capacity. Please reach out to the individuals listed below if you are interested in joining a group.

If you have questions about support pods or ideas for how we can support one another in these times, please contact Director of Community Engagement Trish Becker-Hafnor.

  • Parenting in a Pandemic

This group is for parents or caretakers of children of any age. We aim to provide an informal yet supportive space for parents and to have little impact on already busy schedules. Together, we can laugh, cry, vent and encourage one another. If interested, please reach out to Heather Arnold-Renicker or Trish Becker-Hafnor.

  • Making & Skill Sharing

Our Making & Skill Sharing Support Pod is a place for makers of all kinds (DIYers, crafters, artists, knitters, sewists, bakers, and more) to come together and share creativity. We will meet as a group to decide our collective 'flow,' but the group will likely include some combination of sharing our projects, teaching one another skills though "skill shares," and building check-in structures to support one another's' work. Please reach out to Danielle Littman for more info and if you'd like to join!

  • Between a Walk and a Hard Place

This support pod will focus on the physical dimension of wellness. We will offer support to each other in practicing regular exercise and healthy eating. Join if you need motivation or want to share and receive tips. Let’s be accountability buddies. We can share workouts or recipes. We can share our struggles. We can share our physical wellness goals! If interested, contact Aneesha Bharwani or Donny Gerke.

Field Education

The Graduate School of Social Work is providing the option for either in-person or virtual placements for students. In-person placements must follow all local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines. Students may select which placement option they want, and options are contingent on agency availability. Should public health recommendations change, GSSW will update requirements and restrictions accordingly.
