Supporting Social Work Careers

GSSW Student and Career Services

At the Graduate School of Social Work, you’re never a number. We know you by your name and your story. We’re there for you, from your first day of orientation through your job search after graduation and your career as an alumnus. Our team is dedicated to cultivating community and supporting students in developing and enhancing their academic and professional skills while also ensuring that student resources — such as accommodation for learning differences and disabilities, health and counseling — are available and accessible. We provide Student and Career Services Support to help you nurture self-care, make a career plan, connect with peers and the community, and have some fun along the way.

The GSSW Student Experience

Here, community is central to everything we do. We have dedicated student spaces to enhance community — spaces where students study, participate in group projects and socialize. We’re a warm, welcoming community of scholars that truly like one other — we even eat lunch together! We also provide a variety of social work student events, and the University of Denver campus is rich with sports, arts, culture, recreation and wellness opportunities as well. Our community also is enriched by five social work student organizations that give you an opportunity to build your leadership skills, network with other students and the community, attend conferences and advocate for your class.

Social Work Student Organizations

  • Shades of Brown Alliance

The Shades of Brown Alliance strives to offer an affirming, supportive and encouraging environment for all individuals of color, allies, staff, faculty and alumni of GSSW to learn, voice, escape, mature and positively confront and address the issues people of color experience as a part of the GSSW experience.

  • ECO Conscious

Eco promotes conservation and environmental justice in the GSSW community and beyond by focusing on three critical goals: 1) educating and enlisting the DU community to use Earth's resources responsibly, 2) fostering greater connection with Earth through opportunities to explore and enjoy nature 3) advocating for political change for environmental justice through organized action.

  • Queer Equality Alliance

Queer Equality Alliance is a space for queer folx and allies to sustain community, educate others, and advocate for liberation in order to create a radical sense of belonging and culturally responsive inclusivity at GSSW and the broader community.

  • Graduate Student Association

The Graduate Student Association organizes community events, provides conference scholarships, shares student concerns with GSSW leadership and provides a forum for GSSW students to discuss issues that concern them.

  • Social Workers for Social Justice

The Social Workers for Social Justice organizes the GSSW community to support and participate in grassroots anti-oppressive community action. For example, they educate students on ways to engage in anti-oppressive action in their daily lives, attend social justice events and team up with local organizations to support their efforts.
