Meet Amanda Moore McBride

Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) Morris Endowed Dean and Professor Amanda Moore McBride is committed to community — to the community within GSSW and to the communities with which the school partners to create individual and collective impact.

Her commitment to community is lifelong. As a first-generation college student from rural Arkansas, McBride learned firsthand the value of community voice and action in societal care and governance. She also understood what it meant to have scholarship support to achieve her educational and career dreams. These experiences led to her national and international prominence as a scholar of civic and community engagement and social innovation, and as a champion for diversity and inclusion, especially in education.

McBride is a social worker through and through. Her most recent research and writing focus on how higher education can do better — in its community partnerships, in its education of social innovators and in its diversity and inclusion practices. McBride brings these experiences and this depth of expertise to her leadership of GSSW, where she joined the faculty in 2016. She is a passionate, decisive leader who considers GSSW home.
