Tuition, Billing & Financial Aid
The next step in your GSSW educational journey is to accept the offer of admission and submit your tuition deposit, if you haven’t already.
Tuition Deposit Instructions
For the incoming summer 2023 classes, submit your $300 deposit within 10 days of receiving your decision letter to hold your spot in the Denver Campus Advanced-Standing MSW Program.
The deposit is non-refundable, but the full amount will be credited to your first tuition payment.
- Accept Offer of Admission: To accept our offer of admission, visit your application status page. There, scroll to the “Forms” section and click the “Reply to Admission Offer” link to select “I ACCEPT your admission offer.”
- Submit your Tuition Deposit: Once you have accepted your offer, you will have the opportunity to pay your tuition deposit by clicking the “Enrollment Deposit—Submit Payment” link that appears on your application status page. This link will take you to a webpage where you can pay your deposit with a credit card.
Tuition & Billing
Tuition for each quarter is due the first day of that quarter. More information about tuition, fees and payment are available at the Bursar’s Office.
To apply for state or federal financial assistance, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form as soon as possible. This application is required to determine eligibility for grants, loans and student employment.

Stipends & Research Assistantships
If you are interested in pursuing a research assistantship, view our active research project page to identify a project that fits your interest. From there, reach out to the affiliated faculty member directly for position availability. For general questions about research assistantships, please reach out to Associate Professor Ramona Beltran.
The Collaborative Learning and Innovative Educational Models of Behavioral Health Program (CLIMB) is a behavioral health workforce program that provides 50 MSW students in their concentration year a $10,000 stipend and specialized training.

Title IV-E Child Welfare Stipend
In partnership with the Butler Institute for Families and the Colorado Department of Human Services, we offer 20 child welfare stipends ranging from $12,000 -$14,000 so you can effectively serve families who use public child welfare services.
Application Deadline: Application is rolling, due on the 15th of every month January – May, 2023.
Eligibility: Denver Campus Advanced-Standing MSW Program students with an interest in pursuing work in the Child Welfare system after graduation.Learn More & Apply
In partnership with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), we offer four $10,000 Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) stipends to students who are passionate about a career working with older adults who may have Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Mutual Aid Fellowship
For students interested in community mutual aid, we offer six $5,000 fellowships. Students participate in a weekly field seminar plus field placements at agencies including Lifespan Local, Angelica Village and Mutual Aid Mondays.

Advanced Standing: You start your MSW program in your concentration year and will need to be clear about concentration-specific requirements as you begin course planning.
You chose your concentration during the application process. If you'd like to change your concentration, please reach out to email@example.com at least one month before orientation.

Approximately one month before your scheduled start date, you will receive an invitation for the mandatory virtual orientation. Learn more.

You will meet with your faculty advisor during your first quarter to plan out your future terms.
Please review the GSSW Registration Resources located in the GSSW Denver Campus Registration Toolkit. Before you register, you must check and resolve any holds on your account. You will be unable to register until all holds are resolved.

For incoming summer 2023 Advanced-Standing MSW student, follow the course planning tips listed below.
1. You must register for classes according to your 4-Quarter Advanced-Standing Curriculum Plan. The summer curriculum is intensive. It consists of the following course formats:
- Classes run from Wednesday, July 12, 2023, to Friday, August 18, 2023.
A 5-week intensive course plan most classes meet twice weekly for 3 hours of live sessions with at least 1 hour of asynchronous work (i.e. work is done on your own time). Create time on your calendar to study in between the sessions and reserve a portion of the weekend for larger papers and projects.
- Weekend intensives (two Fridays/Saturdays, please check the schedule for specific weekend dates).
2. Prior cohorts of Advanced Standing students have encouraged us to recommend students only register for 9 credits (3 classes). Advanced Standing students are required to take the following in the summer quarter:
- SOWK 4299 Advanced Standing Seminar (3 credits)
- SOWK 4132 Power Privilege and Oppression (3 credits)
- SOWK 4201 Evidence Based Practice (3 credits)
- You may decide to add an additional Elective/Concentration Course (3 credits)—some students like to push through 4 classes so that during another quarter there is some relief. This is an individual choice, and please note the recommendation is for 3 classes only.

3. The process for securing your field internship can be found on the GSSW Student Resource Portal Field Education page under “Internship Search Documents for Denver Campus Only.” For any questions regarding the field placement process, email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will not register for field during the summer quarter. Once you secure your internship you will receive instructions from the Field Team about how to register for field in the fall quarter.
4. If you have any questions about the registration process, course options, and your academic path prior to your arrival at orientation, register for an Academic Q&A session.
Human-Animal–Environment Interactions in Social Work Certificate
Prepare to recognize the importance and impact of human–animal–environment interactions in culturally responsive and ethically advanced professional social work practice settings.

- Does not require an application.
School Social Work Certificate
Prepare to work in Colorado schools, from preschool through high school.
- Contact program coordinator Julie Ann Laser-Maira if you have questions about the certificate.
- The application is due August 1, 2023, for Denver Campus Advanced-Standing MSW Program.
Latinx Social Work Certificate
Prepare for a bilingual career serving individuals and families of Latin American origin.
- Contact interim program coordinator Deb Ortega if you have questions about the certificate.
- Denver Campus Advanced-Standing MSW Program students can apply for the certificate after orientation.
With field internships, you can begin practicing your social work skills right away. With more than 700+ GSSW field agencies in Denver—from hospitals and hospices to child welfare agencies, policy nonprofits and animal sanctuaries—you’ll find an internship that fits your specific needs and interests. Schedule an Appointment with a Field Advisor
After you complete the internship search form, you will set up a one-on-one meeting with a field advisor, who will work with you to identify GSSW-approved field agencies for your interview and selection process. Learn more about our field advisors and some of our current field placements online.

Housing & Transportation
The on-campus graduate housing application for fall 2022 and winter/spring 2023 quarters is available. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis but housing is limited and provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
For off-campus housing, please visit the University of Denver's Off-Campus Housing Service; login using your DU credentials to see current listings and access the Roommate Finder.
You’ll receive an RTD transit pass, making getting around Denver free and easy. The campus is a hub for light-rail and bus routes connecting you to downtown, the Tech Center, Denver International Airport and the entire metro area.
Parking on Campus
There are several paid parking options on campus, most of which are walking distance from GSSW’s Craig Hall. Parking passes are available for purchase.
New Student Orientation
Required for all incoming advanced-standing, orientation will introduce community resources, expectations and opportunities as you begin your journey at GSSW. (Note: the first day of classes date may differ from DU's academic calendar)

Summer Advanced Standing Orientation Resources
Orientation is required for all incoming Advanced Standing students and is designed to familiarize incoming students with community resources, expectations, and opportunities as you begin your journey with us.
Summer Orientation will be a combination of virtual and in-person sessions to increase accessibility and to support various learning styles. We want to keep you as informed as possible regarding New Student Orientation, so we have updated the GSSW Admitted Student Resource Portal with helpful information.

- Orientation Schedule: Review the Advanced Standing Summer 2023 schedule of events.
- Summer Support: While faculty advisors will not be assigned until after orientation, you may reach out to GSSW Clinical Assistant Professor Amity Good for academic assistance. Please note responses will be delayed between June 8-15, 2023 when GSSW commencement and graduation celebrations are ongoing.
Asynchronous Materials: The asynchronous pre-orientation work lives on DU’s Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. You can access the asynchronous work by logging into Canvas with your DU credentials at canvas.du.edu.
You will need your DU ID number and password to register and access DU systems.

Orientation activities will take place on Zoom with the exception of the resource fair and lunch on Friday, July 7 which are in person. Please see the orientation schedule above for the designated Zoom links for each orientation activity. Create your DU Zoom account using your DU email address and Pioneer Web password. If you have questions about your DU email address, please visit the DU IT Student Resources page. Log out of personal email and zoom accounts before logging into DU email and DU Zoom account.
Access to Campus - DU ID
You will need campus access to attend the in-person portions of orientation. Please be sure to request your DU ID card 2-4 weeks prior to orientation to ensure it is mailed to you early enough. In order to obtain a DU ID card (which is required to access campus buildings, including classes), you must submit an online photo. If done 2 weeks prior to returning to campus, you may elect to have your DU ID card mailed to a preferred address by emailing email@example.com. Please include your full name, mailing address, DU ID number, date of birth in the email request. Otherwise, you can collect your card from the DU ID Card office at the beginning of your first quarter, once you are cleared to be on campus.
Access to Campus - Public Health Info
Vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals must follow separate requirements to access campus
All full- and part-time students who intend to participate in on campus activities, including in person learning must receive a COVID vaccine and upload vaccination documentation by July 1, 2023.
- Medical exemptions require a letter from your doctor and religious exemptions require a certificate of exemption form. Learn more on the Health and Counseling Center COVID-19 webpage.

From vegan to locavore to carnivore, Denver’s food scene has it all, including a wide variety of global flavors walking distance from campus. Some of our nearby favorites are Jeruselem Restaurant, Kaladi Coffee Roasters, Deiter’s Chocolates and Illegal Pete’s. You can often find faculty, staff and students sharing a meal and conversation in Craig Hall or eating or studying al fresco during one of Denver’s 300+ sunny days a year. For other restaurants and hot spots throughout the city, check out the Crimson & Gold Trail passport, which offers discounts and deals for DU alumni-owned businesses throughout the city.
Sports & Recreation
You don’t have to leave campus to find one of Denver’s best sports and recreation complexes: The Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness and Coors Fitness Center. Hop a train to downtown for a pro sports matchup, or explore Denver’s more than 80 miles of urban trails and bikeways. There’s even a ski and snowboard terrain park—The Ruby Hill Rail Yard—minutes from campus.
